The Myth of 'White Privilege'

This has become a major topic on the internet these last few years. The idea that somehow white people are 'privileged' and are somehow responsible for fixing the problems some of their ancestors may have partially caused is nonsense. It would be like asking me to fix something my neighbor's grandfather did. Most white people in the US don't even descend from slave owners, and many had families (like mine), who only arrived in the US after slavery had ended.

They also talk about "assets" which were passed down from generation to generation, which again, is a myth. How many poor Irish or Italians coming to the US brought any significant amount of wealth with them? Or Jews fleeing persecution? Or Poles? Or even the original European colonists of the US who frequently starved to death early on? No, this isn't a case of generational privilege at all. How about you tell a poor white living in Appalachia that he is 'privileged'? Or a white person who has a disability? Or someone who is white but denied a seat at a college because it was given to a minority only because that person wasn't white? Or anyone that is white and facing financial difficulties, for that matter, assuming they weren't rich to begin with.

No, the problem isn't one of whites being given advantages, it's a matter of minorities being put at a disadvantage. That is what needs to be fixed. The only good news is that it seems this 'check your privilege' trend is starting to wear out, as it is convincing almost no one of anything and only serves as a turn-off to many people who hear it. I pity social justice warriors. I really do. Deluded fanatics who can't fix anything in reality, so they yell at others for the 'crime' of being white.

THIS! SO MUCH THIS!!!
If people on Tumblr or Twitter would just break free from whatever cult mentality they have and realize this sole fact, the world would be all the better.
